Paintings Casting Shadows

The following are short films and fragments created by the artist in direct relation to selected paintings. The work remains the painting. The paintings stand on their own. The films that occasionally accompany them are not works in themselves. They are not extensions, translations, or commentaries. Each film is created in direct relation to a specific painting and preserves only my subjective perception of the atmosphere in which that painting came into being: the condition of the studio, the inner tension of the moment.
The films claim no interpretation of the painting. They offer no reading and propose no meaning. They do not show what a painting means, but only how it felt while it was being made. Their visual language deliberately draws on a closed historical vocabulary – early cinema, silent film, film noir – to avoid any timestamp of the present. Movement appears fractured, time unstable. Technical imperfection is a condition, not an effect. The films explain nothing. They withdraw.

Visual Echo (2026) – 26 sec. – inspired by the painting of the same title PUSH THE SKY AWAY (2024)

Visual Echo (2026) – 53 sec. – inspired by the ongoing body of work I WOKE TO THE SOUND OF RAIN (2020 – present)

I woke to the sound of rain. Trying to forget you. Trying to forget your name. I woke to the sound of rain. Forgetting you. Forgetting names.
